Toyologist Toy Review - CASDON IRONING BOARD SET

This is a guest review from the lovely Karen at Would Like To Be a Yummy Mummy and her little toy testers Poppy and Rosie .

After blogging about how much I wanted to be a toy tester here, I think Helen took pity on me and decided to share some of her luck and work load by asking my little girls and I to help her out with this review. We were delighted to be able to.

We were asked to review this Casdon ironing set which includes an adjustable Beldray ironing board with storage tray, a Morphy Richards Iron and a clothes horse with 4 clothes hangers. Its aimed at children ages 3-8 years and costs around £20.

The girls had great fun unwrapping the package when it arrived and Poppy in particular was very impressed. She couldn't wait to start playing at "being Mummy".  This surprised me at first considering Daddy does all the ironing in our house but never mind!

I went to find some of Rosie's old clothes and she quickly set up this game where she washes the clothes in her washing machine (not included), hangs them on the line to dry and then irons them.  The whole process takes approximately two minutes and she plays it about 100 times a day! I am actually amazed at how much she enjoys it and how busy it keeps her.

Here's a little video clip we have done for you:

The actual board is quite sturdy and adjusts to three different heights.  Its great and she loves it so that's all that matters. The iron doesn't actually do anything. It is not an all singing all dancing one that takes batteries and lights up or make noises but to be honest Mummy quite likes that and Poppy doesn't seem to worry. The only problems she has, is her younger Sister keeps knocking over her clothes horse but this is just a side effect of having a Sister. We give it a massive 8/10.

We would definitely recommend it as a great gift for little ones.

The Casdon ironing board set is available instore at Toys R Us .  RRP £20

Age suitability: 3 - 8 yrs

Toyologist Toy Review - KETER HANDZ ON ART DESK

The Keter Handz On art desk arrived in a very large box and Jack was keen to get it open.

Photobucket

Inside there was a pile of large parts and a bag of accessories, along with an instruction sheet.

Photobucket
The pieces slotted together easily without the need for any tools, happy days...
Photobucket

Once the desk was all set up I was disappointed to find that no art set was included in the box despite there being pictures on the box showing one and detailing the contents. Apparently Handz On are not including the art set in these desks and the picture will be covered up on the box before they go on sale.
Photobucket
We managed to find some crayons and Jack set to work........decorating the seat!
Photobucket

Once he had some paper he sat happily for ages colouring away.
Photobucket
It's a perfect size for Jack, who is 2. He can slide into the seat easily and the desk is just the right height for him to sit comfortably and draw, with his crayons within easy reach in the removable storage cup.

There are 2 removable side panels on the desk that are used to store a rolling pin, cutting knife and shape cutters. There are also hand shaped wells which can be used to store crayons or for mixing paints. The side panels can easily be taken off and washed if needed.
Photobucket Photobucket
The rolling pin and shape cutters are great to use with play dough and as they have their own place in the desk I found that Jack replaced them after he'd been using them, rather than throwing them on the floor. The surface area of the desk is a very generous size for drawing and playing with play dough.

The Handz On desk is not yet available at Toys R Us but should be released soon with RRP £39.99 which, to be honest, I think is a little pricey when you can find desks of similar quality at lower prices.

Biscuits before dinner......

Photobucket
Time is running out for your chance to enter the Oreo Lick Race and be in with a chance of winning a VIP family trip to Florida or daily prizes of a Nintendo Wii.

There are two different ways to enter - you can either 'watch to win', where you pick the 'Slicker Licker' and be entered into a daily draw to win a Nintendo Wii and other prizes,  or 'race to win' where you can race against family members to twist, lick and dunk your Oreo to be in with a chance of winning the Florida trip.

The contest ends on 31st July so you only have a short time left to enter.

It's great fun and all the family can join in, you just need Oreos, some milk and a means of filming your race. All terms and conditions can be found on the Lick Race website.

Supporting KidsOut
For every Lick Race video uploaded to the website Oreo will donate £1 to the children's charity KidsOut, a charity giving disadvantaged and disabled children and young people fun, positive activities and experience that contribute to their development, well-being and outlook for a happier future.

Oreo were kind enough to send us a kit so we could record our own Lick Race video to upload to the website and be in with a chance of winning.

The kit included 3 packs of Oreos, 2 fancy plastic tumblers, some badges and a Flip camera to record our efforts.

Here is one of our practice videos - I say practice as this one wouldn't be eligible to enter for 2 reasons, firstly as there was no adult present in the shot (my fault) and secondly they didn't show the clean biscuit to their opponent (however much I drummed the rules into them beforehand - my guess is it was just their way of being able to eat more biscuits before dinner).

I'm not Scary ......honest

We had a very exciting weekend tweeting up with some celebs of the blogging circuit. On Saturday we travelled to Walsall, only a 45 minute journey for us, where we had a quick look around the town, stopping to buy new trainers for the kids and lemon bon bons for the husband, before checking into our hotel for the night which was part of a Groupon deal that we purchased a few weeks ago.

It was then time to meet The Boy and Me for the very first time which was very surreal as I had seen so many photos of The Boy it was as though I already knew him. You can read here how 'Me' was a bit scared of meeting me.......hopefully not because I am big and scary, but because I had the honour of being the first 'real life' person she had Tweeted up with since her blogging journey began. We chatted over a lovely bottle of pink fizz and she soon realised that she had nothing to fear as I am as normal as they come......ok ok maybe a bit dizzy or whacky at times but pretty much as normal as the rest of you.....right?

Jack and The Boy getting acquainted

Photobucket
Hey come back with my Trunki...

The next day we set off early for West Midlands Safari Park, arriving just as the gates were opening and then spent 2 hours on the leisurely Safari drive viewing all the wild animals in the park. Some of them (lions and tigers) were a bit inactive and there was a lot of moaning from the back seat 'Just drive, these are boring', but as we got towards the end of the drive there were a lot more animals that were taking an interest in the cars, no doubt looking for food. At one point a dear-like creature stuck it's head in the window as we were looking out of the other window and gave myself and Jack a bit of a fright.

Get out of our way you scary Cow-like creature

I think our favourite animal of all had to be the magnificent Giraffes, who were just strutting between the cars looking for food and slowing down the traffic. There was a Ranger nearby waving branches to try and get them off the road, without much success. At one point we all laughed so hard when through the megaphone the Ranger shouted 'Please don't hang your baby out of the sunroof'.

After we had completed the drive we parked up and went in search of food. It was then that we met up with the lovely Wendy from Inside the Wendy House and her family and again with The Boy and Me's lovely  family. By this point Sam and Hanna were itching to go on some rides so, along with Wendy's daughter Kizzy, bought wristbands for unlimited rides and after that we didn't see much of them, just briefly flying by to let us know which ride they would be going on next, or showing us how wet their bums were from the last ride.

We stupidly forgot to put Jack's pushchair in the car before leaving home but thankfully Freddy was happy to let Jack have a nap in his new Graco U'Go after he had fallen asleep on Daddy's shoulders.

A great day was had by all and we were all exhausted by the end of it.

Toyologist Toy Review - CLUB PENGUIN AIR HOCKEY PLAYSET

Photobucket
The Club Penguin Air Hockey Playset came in a big box, displaying the Club Penguin figures in a perspex window. I was a little disappointed to find that not all the characters on the box were included inside. There is a detailed list of contents on the front stating that 2 Penguin Players and a referee are included, however there are also pictures of other figures on the back stating 'Use Mix N Match Figures'....which is a bit misleading if, like me, you weren't aware what 'Mix N Match Figures' were and that they are available separately (although the box does state this on another of the pictures of the figures).

Putting that aside, once we got all the parts out of the box it was easy to assemble and once we'd inserted the batteries (sold separately) the games could begin.

Air hockey is a simple game where players use the figures to hit the puck around the playing arena in an attempt to score in the oppositions goal. Air is blown up through holes in the arena enabling the puck to glide around. It brought out the competitive side in all of us and many a knuckle was scraped. There is a scoreboard that attaches to the side of the arena to track yoru scores.

Photobucket Photobucket

Although the box states that the game is suitable for 5+ years we have shown that a toddler of two can also have fun with it on his own, although you would need to supervise as there are small parts which could pose a potential choking hazard.

This is a great game for any Club Penguin fan and figure collector as there is a stand included in the set where additional figures can be displayed. There are also 2 additional bases included which can be used to make your Mix N Match figures into Hockey players. Mix N Match figure sets are also available from Toys R Us. The figures are very solid and would withstand a lot of play, although we found that the surface of the arena was scratched easily by the figures.

We though it was a great game that could be enjoyed by Club Penguin fans of all ages.

If you have a Club Penguin online account you can also use the code found in the box to unlock 4 exclusive items within your account, such as accessories for your penguin, Puffles and coins.

It's not Eton but it is a Mess...

If you've got kids anything like mine then as soon as they've eaten all their dinner they ask 'what's for pudding'. Sometimes they ask before they've finished eating their dinner to find out whether the dinner is worth finishing. Often it's fruit or a yoghurt but to be honest I get sick of all the moaning so occasionally I like to give them a treat, and tonight was one of those nights.

I checked in the cupboards and freezer to see what I could rustle up and came up with this :

Ingredients

Frozen raspberries
Handful of mini marshmallows
4  Meringue nests, broken up
3 choc ices, chopped
Natural Greek yoghurt
Maple Syrup

Serves 4

Photobucket

Thaw the raspberries out slightly in the microwave and mix with the marshmallows, meringue and choc ices.

Bind it all together with a drizzle of maple syrup and a heaped tablespoon of Greek yoghurt (double cream or creme fraiche would be just as good).

Spoon into dishes and enjoy.

Whilst I was making it Hanna said 'oh wow, it's like a salad........but with puddingy things'
