Peppered Steak, Cheesy Chicken & Bacon and Chinese Duck

Last week I was sent a fab meat box to review from Meat Porter, containing the following items :
  • 500g Lean steak mince
  • 2 x 8oz sirloin steaks
  • 2 x Barbary duck breasts
  • 3 x Chicken breasts
  • 220g Smoked back bacon

We were spoilt for choice but I chose to cook the steak for our Friday night dinner (adults) and some of the chicken (kids). The chicken breasts were a really good size so I only actually used just over one to feed all 3 children, along with the bacon, with some Edam cheese inside. We enjoyed it all with salad and rice (them) and roasted aubergine (me).

The duck breasts were also of a really good size, and were sprinkled with Chinese five spice over the skin, and cooked for a few minutes in a pan, skin side down, until the skin was crispy.

The duck was then transferred to the oven for 15 minutes before resting for 10 further minutes.

I enjoyed a little of it on a bed of courgette noodles and aubergine chips.

The rest of the duck was basted in some of the juices from the pan and added to a stir fry for the family.

Sam used some of the steak mince to make a bolognaise and will be using the rest in his cookery lesson to make more bolognaise - pasta is definitely fast becoming his speciality dinner.

Despite not seeming like a lot of meat it has fed the five of us 3 good meals so far, and we still have some of the mince and over half of the chicken left.

The meat was also of excellent quality, which is no surprise considering that Meat Porter source traditional artisan cuts from producers that supply top London restaurants, at a fraction of the price that you would pay in a restaurant. They will also deliver your order the very next day so you don't need to wait long. If you fancy a little culinary challenge you can select a surprise box and make a saving of around 10% compared to a box that you choose yourself.
