With two teens in the house I should really be stepping back a little in the kitchen and allowing the kids to make dinner, but truth be told, I often leave cooking the evening meal until the very last minute and don't usually know what dinner will be until I start cooking it. My main go-to quick dinner is spag bol as it's quick and easy, and I always have a pack or two of mince in for this reason.
Old El Paso have re-launched their Stand 'N' Stuff Taco Kits, with a claim that dinner can be on the table in twenty minutes, so I thought I would put that claim to the test and see if we could have a new go-to quick dinner, and one that the kids could potentially make too.
I set the timer for 20 minutes and set to work.
Included in the kit is a pack of seasoning, some salsa and 8 Stand 'N' Stuff soft flour tortillas. Directions are printed on the side of the pack, but basically all you're required to do is brown your beef mince, add the seasoning and a little water, and simmer. Job done. Whilst it was simmering I chopped tomatoes, shredded lettuce and grated cheese. Ok that part is a lie; I bought ready grated cheese, but I still had plenty of time to grate cheese had I needed to.
I still had 4 minutes left on the clock when everything was ready to serve. Definitely quicker than spag bol.
One of the teens was at a friends for tea when we tried this meal out, which meant it was perfect for the remaining four of us. The kids thought this was so much easier than fajitas or regular tacos, which can be quite fiddly for small hands to hold. These boat shaped soft tacos are the perfect size to fill and hold, and with a flat bottom they can be filled without making too much mess.
Goodbye spag bol and hello Stand 'N' Stuff. I think I'll be hanging my pinny up and letting the teens make our midweek meals from now on.
Old El Paso Stand 'N' Stuff kits have an rrp of £3.79 and a pack of 8 Stand 'N' Stuff flour tortillas are £1.89. Available in Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons.
