Fun in the Sun this Summer: UK’s Five Best Theme Parks

The summer holidays are looming, and while this means the journey to work is not quite so packed with traffic, it also means the need to juggle work commitments while also trying to keep the little ones entertained. Sometimes, it’s not possible to spend the duration of the school holidays with them, utilising various childcare options, clubs and groups to keep them safe and happy. However, if you’re lucky enough to spend some, if not all, of the school break with them, it’s a good idea to plan some special outings to keep them out of trouble and having maximum fun.

Theme parks are one of those things is guaranteed to bring a smile to a child’s face; from the hair-raising coasters to the water rides that always make a splash, they’re a great way to spend a family day. Incorporate a visit to one into a weekend break and treat the family to a superb day out! Use the Travelodge website to book an affordable bed for the night (and check out the new Get Up and Go Guide for some fabulous inspiration on what to do with the rest of your time away) and enjoy yourselves! Here are some of the best theme parks across the country for you to choose from.

Alton Towers
Perfect for all the family, Alton Towers is more than just thrill rides and white knuckle coasters. Even those who are a little faint-hearted will enjoy the glorious surroundings in which this Staffordshire theme park is set. For as far as the eye can see, you’ll find beautifully landscaped gardens to lose yourself in – that’s if Nemesis, Rita, Oblivion, Air and 13 (among many others) don’t float your boat. Little ones will be well taken care of too, especially with the new CBeebies Land having opened this year!

Thorpe Park
If you’re planning a visit down south, and you’re a lover of rollercoasters, Thorpe Park is where it’s at. Teenagers will love this place, as will grownups with a thirst for adrenaline. Have you got the nerve to ride Stealth, catapulting you 200ft vertically into the air, reaching 80mph in 1.8seconds? Give it a go, we dare you!

Chessington World of Adventures
This London-based theme park (located just outside, in the Kingston-upon-Thames area) offers something for everyone. Thrill rides? Check. Rollercoasters? Check. Water rides? Check. Child-friendly rides that don’t require nerves of steel? Check. Plus, it has a zoo on site too, for all the animal lovers out there.

Paulton’s Park
Situated near Southampton, Paulton’s Park is home to the fabulous Peppa Pig World, perfect for anyone with little ones in tow. Meet the characters, treat them to some official Peppa merchandise from the massive on-site shop, and enjoy a wealth of family-friendly rides and attractions. Plus, Paulton’s Park is also home to a range of fun-filled rides for non-Peppa fans, too.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach
Seaside resorts are the first port of call for many Brits as soon as the sun comes out, and Blackpool has its own theme park to enjoy as well as the beach, tower and amusements! Ride The Big One, if you dare, or stick to Nickelodeon Land with the kids if you’d prefer. There’s loads on offer in this Northern seaside resort - plus, the summer will be jam-packed with fun attractions and events, including the Illuminations, that are always fun to be part of!

Take your pick from these five stellar choices, or head to another theme park instead – the UK is full of them to add some knuckle-biting adrenalin rushes and family friendly fun to your summer breaks away.
