Flashback Friday - 2005

This week's  Flashback Friday was taken towards the end of 2005 out on a hen night and not a costume in sight, just pink scarves and Cowboy hats. There is a bit of a story about that night that will be remembered for evermore amongst my circle of friends and, they say, could only happen to me!

After the pubs most of the Hen party went onto a club but I was reluctant, firstly as I hadn't been out in town for a while and secondly as my money had just about ran out. My friend pictured here wasn't going to the club but offered to lend me some money so I could go, so I decided 'what the hell', I owe it to my friend who's Hen night it was to join them in a spot of dancing.

Shortly after finding my friends the lights all came on and word got around that the place was being raided by the Police. How exciting I thought so I got my phone out to text my husband to tell him the news, fumbling at the keypad my phone dropped to the floor, battery going one way, back of phone going the other. I soon got it back together and sent the text.

By this time the Police were making their rounds with sniffer dogs, 'How cute' I said as one sniffed at my pocket and sat down in front of me 'He likes me'. Little did I know at the time that the dog will sit down if it smells something out of the ordinary, so off I was marched, right across the middle of the dancefloor to the ladies toilets where I was questioned and searched.........for Drugs! Needless to say they didn't find any and the scent must've either been on my phone, which it picked up off the floor, or on money that was also in the pocket.

A friend that I saw at the weekend mentioned that the last time she saw me was on this Hen night and all she can remember me saying as I was being dragged off was 'but I'm a pillar of the community, I'm on the Playgroup Committee'..........oh dear!

Anyway, I have digressed as the reason that I have posted this photo for my Flashback Friday this week is that on Sunday it will be 4 years since this good friend of mine pictured beside me passed away, after a short but tough battle with illness. I do believe this may have been the last picture we had taken together as, although we spoke on the phone, I didn't get to see her as often as I would have liked. I think about her often, and the good times that we shared, she was lovely and I miss her.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sun on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft star that shines at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there. I did not die
